Photo Booth Fix: Booth app will not reopen the event

Updated November 2026 · 4 min read

When your photo booth app will not reopen the event, connect the device to your hotspot, log in with the company account, and open the copy of the event you downloaded to the device in advance. If the event is not on the device and you cannot log in, put the backup device on the stand while you sort it out.

This failure usually shows up after a crash, a restart or a battery swap, when the app asks you to sign in again or shows an empty event list. It is a login and download problem, not a hardware problem, which is why the T-2 routine prevents nearly all of it.

What guests and the attendant see

Guests see a login screen or a blank menu where the booth start screen should be.

The attendant sees one of these: a login prompt, an event list with your event missing, a message about the subscription or plan, or a spinner while the app tries to download event assets over a weak connection. Under Guided Access you may have to exit before you can do anything about it.

60-second triage

  1. Exit Guided Access with the company passcode.
  2. Connect to your hotspot, not the venue network, so login and downloads have a real connection.
  3. Log in with the company credentials from your team password manager.
  4. Open the event. If it was downloaded for offline use, it should open even on a weak connection.

Likely causes, ranked

  1. Logged out. A restart, an app update or a password change on the account signed the device out.
  2. Event never downloaded to the device. It was built in the cloud dashboard but not saved for offline use on this device, so it needs a good connection to open.
  3. Subscription or plan issue. A failed card payment, a lapsed plan, or a plan limit on devices or active events.
  4. Wrong account. The device is signed into a personal or old account, not the company one that owns the event.
  5. No connection for the login itself, such as a venue network with a captive login page.

The full fix, step by step

  1. Get a clean connection. Hotspot placed high, venue network forgotten if it has a login page.
  2. Sign in with the company account. If the password fails, call or text the owner; do not try reset links in front of guests.
  3. Find the event. Check you are in the right account or workspace, then download the event and let every asset finish: overlays, templates, music and sharing settings.
  4. Open it and run a test session with one share to your own phone. Confirm the overlay is the approved one.
  5. If the app reports a subscription problem, only the owner can fix billing. Text the owner the exact message on screen, and move to the backup device or backup event meanwhile.
  6. Turn Guided Access back on.
  7. Log the cause in your post-event report so the owner can fix the account side before the next event.

Prevent it next event

  • At T-14, verify the booth software subscription is active and the event slot is available in your app.
• At T-7, build the event with overlay, sharing options and gallery connected.
  • At T-2, download the event to the exact device going out, then prove it works offline: turn on Airplane Mode and open it. If it opens and shoots, it is ready.
  • Store logins in a team password manager, together with the Guided Access passcode, so any attendant can sign in.
  • Do not change account passwords in event week without updating every device first.
  • Keep a generic backup event on every device: a neutral overlay with your logo only, downloaded for offline use.

When to switch to the backup device

If you cannot get the event open within 2 minutes, stop trying on that device. Mount the backup device, which should already be logged in with the event downloaded, and keep shooting.

If every device is locked out, as with a subscription problem on the account, open the generic backup event so the booth keeps running with a neutral overlay. Call the owner, since the host's branded output is effectively down. At T+1, export the sessions from the backup event and add them to the client's gallery so nothing is missing.

Questions operators ask

Can a photo booth app run without internet?

Many can capture and queue shares offline, but only if the event was downloaded to the device in advance. Test it at T-2 with Airplane Mode on.

Why does the app keep asking me to log in?

Restarts, app updates and password changes can all sign a device out. Keep the company login in a shared password manager and avoid changing passwords or updating apps in event week.

What happens to sessions shot on the backup event?

They stay on the device like any other session. Export them at T+1 and merge them into the client's gallery before delivery.

Who should hold the booth app login?

The company account should belong to the owner, with credentials in a team password manager attendants can reach on event day. Attendants should never run client events on personal accounts.
